The Deputy Governor of Katsina State, Hon. Faruk Lawal Jobe, FCNA, HCIB (Sarkin Fulanin Jobe), on Thursday, held a closed-door meeting with the Senate Committee on Army, led by Senator Abdul’aziz Musa Yar’adua, to assess military operations and strengthen collaboration on security efforts across the state.

The high-level meeting, which took place at the Old Government House in Katsina, focused on evaluating the effectiveness of ongoing military operations in tackling insecurity in the region.

Addressing journalists after the session, Deputy Governor Jobe explained that the committee’s visit was part of a national oversight mission by the Senate to monitor and review military activities, particularly in areas facing security challenges.

“This visit is part of the constitutional oversight duty of the Senate, aimed at ensuring that resources allocated to the security sector are being effectively utilised,” he said.

Hon. Jobe, speaking on behalf of the Katsina State Government, commended the Nigerian Army for its continued sacrifices and commitment to restoring peace and order in the state. He reaffirmed the administration’s unwavering support for security agencies under the leadership of Governor Dikko Umar Radda, PhD, CON, emphasizing that peace and security remain top priorities for the government.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, Senator Abdul’aziz Musa Yar’adua, said the committee was in Katsina to engage directly with frontline troops and evaluate the realities of military deployments in the state.

“We are here to interact with the soldiers, assess their performance, and understand their operational needs. It is our duty to ensure that funds appropriated for military operations are judiciously used in line with national expectations,” he noted.

The Senate Committee also lauded the Katsina State Government for establishing the Katsina Community Watch Corps (KCWC), a state-backed security outfit working in synergy with federal security forces to strengthen community-level vigilance and intervention.

The Senate delegation included Senator Nasir Sani Zangon Daura, representing Daura Senatorial District, and other ranking members of the committee.

The visit comes amid sustained military operations in parts of the state, as authorities seek to consolidate gains in the fight against banditry and terrorism.
